: Adhieu Jok Atem was at risk of returning to South Sudan with a relative, where she would have married young. She is now attending Roots Academy.

: Dau Atem Dau received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Nairobi.

: Kuir Mayen Kuir is SoSS’ third higher education graduate. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics & Statistics from the University of Nairobi in 2021.

A Brief History of South Sudan

The founding of the country of South Sudan dates from January 2011 when the people of South Sudan voted on whether they should break away from Sudan and declare independence. On January 30, 2011 the results had shown that 98.83% of the population had voted for independence from Sudan. Click here to learn more.
